Social District

The Grosse Pointe Park Social District was created in August 2020 under Public Act 124-2020. This district allows local businesses to serve alcoholic drinks to-go, which consumers can enjoy within designated commons areas. It's important for consumers to remember that these to-go alcoholic drinks must be consumed only within the designated commons areas, not throughout the entire district. The Grosse Pointe Park Social District has been approved by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, and this approval can be verified by viewing the Official Document (PDF). The City is currently reviewing and installing signage throughout the district.

The boundaries of the GPP Social District are as follows: on Kercheval Avenue from the alley between Alter Road and Wayburn Street to Nottingham Street, and on Charlevoix Avenue from the same alley between Alter Road and Wayburn Street to the west side of Nottingham Street. The Social District includes two commons areas:

  • On Kercheval Avenue, from the east side of Wayburn Street to the halfway point between Beaconsfield and Nottingham Streets
  • On the north side of Charlevoix Street, from the City of Detroit boundary to Beaconsfield Street, and on the south side of Charlevoix from Beaconsfield to Lakepointe.

The commons areas are open from 5 pm to 10 pm Sunday through Thursday, and from 5 pm to 11 pm on Friday and Saturday. The Social District will be closed on the following U.S. holidays: New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
